Every town has a first chapter, and Ethete is no exception. St. Michael's Mission, the heart of Ethete, was started for the Arapaho people about 1887 by the Episcopal missionary John Roberts. The story is that when Roberts and the Bishop asked to build a church, the chief consulted his people and came back with one word, Ethete, which means good. By 1917 the mission's buildings stood around an oval, and in 1920 its log church was moved to its present site and enlarged. That's from the National Register of Historic Places.
Ethete is a community in Fremont County. The Census Bureau counted 1,393 people here in 2020.
