Did You Know?

In 1907 George Byron Gordon and his brother MacLaren built a canoe in Fairbanks and traveled down the Tanana River and up the Kantishna to Lake Minchumina. They spent about a week with the people living there, who called themselves Minkhotana, the Lake People. Then they crossed the 10 and a half mile trail that the lake people had long used to reach the North Fork of the Kuskokwim. On the trail they met two prospectors who were hauling in food for two years. That's from the National Park Service.
