Did You Know?

Encino sits on Luciano Chapa's 1832 Mexican land grant, La Encantada y Encina del Pozo, which means Enchanted Place and Live Oak in a Hole. The name reportedly came from a big live oak here. Wind and animals seeking its shade slowly wore away the ground around it until a hole formed. The town began in the early 1900s as a cattle roundup point. That's from the Handbook of Texas.
