Every town has a first chapter, and Crowheart is no exception. The Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources puts it this way: "Crowheart Butte takes its name from a mid-1800s conflict between the Eastern Shoshone and the Crow over hunting rights in the region. According to Eastern Shoshone oral traditions, the conflict ended when Chief Washakie and Crow Chief Big Robber agreed to a duel, bringing the fighting to a close and establishing peace between the tribes." A state interpretive sign at the butte, four miles southeast of the community of Crowheart, honors that history. It also honors Chief Washakie, who guided his people through great change and secured a homeland that still sustains the Eastern Shoshone.
Crowheart is a community in Fremont County. The Census Bureau counted 120 people here in 2020.
