Did You Know?
Mossville was laid out about 1854 as a way station on the new railroad. It was named for William S. Moss, one of the owners of the land. Moss lived in Peoria, where he ran one of the leading distilleries. In 1859 he moved to California, made a fortune and died there in 1882. That’s from the 1901 Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois.
