Hillsboro has a story worth telling. Hillsboro was the Scott County seat for 30 years, starting in 1836. When the railroad bypassed it and voters moved the county seat to Forest in 1866, a long-held legend says the men of Hillsboro tore down the first Forest courthouse and carried it back to Hillsboro brick by brick. The Legislature finally settled the dispute in favor of Forest in 1873. That's from the National Register of Historic Places.
Hillsboro is a community in Scott County. The Census Bureau counted 1,072 people here in 2020.
