Every town has a first chapter, and Cockeysville is no exception. Cockeysville marble is best known for the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., whose first 152 feet were faced with Cockeysville stone between 1845 and 1854. The Beaver Dam quarry at Cockeysville also furnished the marble for the 108 columns in the wings of the U.S. Capitol. The same marble went into Baltimore's own Washington Monument and the stone front steps of many of the city's older row houses. That's from the Maryland Geological Survey.
Cockeysville is a community in Baltimore County. The Census Bureau counted 24,184 people here in 2020.
