Did You Know?
Montezuma Creek carries the name of Montezuma, the Aztec leader in Mexico when Cortez landed in 1519. Later legends told of his return and recapture in southern Utah, and his name lives on in the town of Montezuma Creek. As their herds grew and needed more pasture, Navajos began to cross the San Juan River and settle around Bluff and Montezuma Creek. That's from the Utah Division of State History.
