Ulm has a story worth telling. Ulm was named for William Ulm, who had a ranch here on land that took in the present townsite. The post office opened in 1883 with Ulm as postmaster, and when the Great Northern built its line through in 1887, it bought the right-of-way from him. The town grew into a shipping point for wheat from the benchlands all around it. That's from the Montana place-names book by Roberta Cheney.
Ulm is a community in Cascade County. The Census Bureau counted 723 people here in 2020.
