Did You Know?
In 1916 Elmer E. Paxton, who ran the Engel Copper Mine, bought this land from a gold miner. After the Indian Valley Railroad was built to carry copper ore to the Western Pacific line, he paid for a 32-room lodge where the two railroads met in 1917. Paxton Lodge, named for him, was a hotel for train riders and later a recording studio for musicians such as Jackson Browne. That's from the Paxton Memories history of Paxton Lodge.
