Did You Know?
When the Texas and Pacific Railway laid tracks through here in the early 1870s, a town quickly grew up around the railroad. Residents named it for Elmo Scott, a wire engineer who surveyed and routed the line through the county. A post office opened in 1873, and within ten years Elmo had about 900 people and shipped cotton, corn and wheat. That's from the Handbook of Texas.
