Did You Know?

Ophir began life as Spanish Corral. Miners swapped that name for Ophir, the land of King Solomon’s treasure. In 1852 it was the most populous town in Placer County. By 1939 it was still the trade center of the county’s chief quartz mining district. That’s from the 1939 WPA guide to California.
