Look near the bottom of the map. Okehocking Preserve sits just above West Chester Pike. A state historical marker on the pike calls this place Okehocking Indian Town. It tells a story from 1701. That year, William Penn moved a group of Lenni-Lenape people here from Ridley and Crum Creeks. Their chiefs were Pokhais, Sepopawny and Muttagooppa. They were part of the Unami group, and their totem was the tortoise. Penn gave them a square tract of 500 acres. It lay on the north side of the road, east of Ridley Creek. The marker says it was the only Indian reservation Penn ever set up. The marker stands about half a mile east of Street Road.
From Paoli Manor to Okehocking Preserve
