Why the town is called Richmond Heights
The town's name tells two things about it. The State Historical Society of Missouri keeps an old file of place names. It says the town was named for Richmond, Virginia, which was once the capital of the Confederacy. It also says the name came from the town's spot on the highest point in this section. That's the "Heights" part. On the map, you can see the land rise and fall in soft shades of green around the streets.
Historic places on Big Bend and Bellevue
Two places in town are on the National Register of Historic Places. The Dr. Samuel A. Bassett Office and Residence stands at 1200 South Big Bend Boulevard. It was listed in 1993. The Bellecourt Apartments line Bellevue Avenue and were listed in 2002. Both streets are printed on the map, so you can find where these old buildings stand.
