Did You Know?
Some call Nikolski the oldest community in the world that people have lived in without a break. Finds on Ananiuliak Island, across Nikolski Bay, go back 8,500 years, and the Chaluka site in the village shows 4,000 years of nearly unbroken living. People were living at Nikolski before the Pyramids were built. In June 1942, after Japan attacked Unalaska and seized Attu and Kiska, the people of Nikolski were moved to the Ketchikan area. They were allowed to come home in 1944. That's from the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association.
