Did You Know?
Salcha began in 1902 with a telegraph station. That year the U.S. Army Signal Corps placed it about three miles from the mouth of the Salcha River. The Salchaket post office opened at the river mouth in 1909 and closed in 1926. Its name came from Salchakaket, meaning mouth of the Salcha. That’s from the U.S. Geological Survey place names records.
