Redland has a story worth telling. Emory Grove began as a religious camp meeting held by formerly enslaved people as early as 1865. In the early 1870s families from nearby farms in Redland and Goshen bought land there and built a 123 acre community. Urban renewal razed nearly all the old homes in the 1970s, but many families who had to move away kept worshiping at the Emory Grove church. That's from the Maryland Historical Trust.
