Every town has a first chapter, and Alamo is no exception. Alamo parents who watched their children leave for distant boarding schools set out to create a school at home. Using the 1975 Indian Self-Determination Act, they formed the Alamo Navajo School Board in 1979, and the Alamo Navajo Community School opened on October 1, 1979, in four portable buildings. By December 1980 it taught all twelve grades to 317 students. The board went on to run a health clinic, an early childhood center and other community services. That's from the Alamo Navajo School Board.
Alamo is a community in Socorro County. The Census Bureau counted 1,150 people here in 2020.
