Here is a piece of Highland Meadows history. The old railroad and Route 66 stop of Suwanee began as a Santa Fe Railway depot called San Jose. It was renamed Suwanee in 1902 because Oklahoma already had a San Jose station, and the post office that opened in 1917 was named Correo, Spanish for mail. The local school was a railroad boxcar. Local people used both names, Correo and Suwanee. In 1937 Route 66 moved to a shorter road that linked Laguna through Correo and Suwanee to Albuquerque. That's from the Route 66 history site TheRoute-66.com.

Highland Meadows is a community in Valencia County. The Census Bureau counted 568 people here in 2020.
