East Nassau has a story worth telling. East Nassau, on Kinderhook Creek, was known for many years as Schermerhorn's, in honor of John W. Schermerhorn, who kept its first tavern. William Root opened a general store there as early as 1780, and the post office opened about 1830 with Jared Root as postmaster. In 1869 a flood on Kinderhook Creek destroyed the old Schermerhorn grist mill at East Nassau and every bridge below it in the town. That's from the Landmarks of Rensselaer County.
East Nassau is a village in Rensselaer County. The Census Bureau counted 559 people here in 2020.
