If you grew up on Esplen Street or still drive West Carson Street every day, this map is about your streets. It's a modern aerial view of Esplen in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, made from modern data and given a vintage look. The red buildings of Esplen crowd a small, flat strip between a winding creek and a wide blue river. Behind them, green hills rise up and fill most of the sheet, crossed by a web of pale streets.

Esplen is small, but a lot is packed in. Its buildings sit in tight rows near West Carson Street. The biggest red blocks on the sheet stand at the back of the flat, close to the creek. Water wraps around two sides. The creek curls in from the left, and the river runs down the whole right edge. Up on the hills, the streets bend and climb in long curves. Small trees dot the grass between them.

The land around Esplen has very old roots. In nearby McKees Rocks, a state historical marker stands at Rangers Field. It tells of the McKees Rocks Mound, the largest Native American burial mound in western Pennsylvania. The marker says it's 16 feet high and 85 feet wide. The Adena people built it by hand between 200 BC and 100 AD. Later, the Hopewell and Monongahela people used it too.
