Steelton in the 1883 County History
Steelton shows up all through the 1883 county history of Dauphin and Lebanon counties. The book lists justices of the peace for Steelton Borough. It names the Steelton Branch of the Philadelphia and Reading railroad. It also lists a Steelton newspaper, The Item, put out by J. A. Work.
Steelton High School and Lincoln Street
Steelton High School, at 100 South Fourth Street, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. South Fourth Street is printed on the map, so you can find that block. A state marker at Lincoln and Carlisle Streets, dedicated in 1997, honors William Howard Day. He was an abolitionist, minister, editor and educator. In 1878, he became the first African American elected to the Harrisburg School Board. Lincoln Street is on the map too.
