Did You Know?
The Tenkiller name goes back to a well-known ferry across the Illinois River, 6 miles northeast of Webbers Falls. The ferry was named for Tenkiller, a Cherokee who farmed nearby, and Tenkiller Dam took its name from that crossing. That's from the Oklahoma Place Names book by George H. Shirk.
