Did You Know?

Coldfoot was first called Slate Creek. It reportedly got its new name in 1900, when gold prospectors came this far up the Koyukuk River, got cold feet, turned around and left. By 1902 it had two roadhouses, two stores, seven saloons and a gambling house, but in 1912 the mine and town were abandoned for the mines on Nolan and Wiseman creeks. That's from the State of Alaska community database.
