Did You Know?
Scots-Irish settlers arrived in 1726 and called the place Coleraine, for a town in County Londonderry. It was later renamed for Brookfield, Massachusetts, and joined to Middleton. The high ridge of the Moose Mountains split Middleton, so March town meetings were hard to reach. Brookfield won its own incorporation in 1794.
