Did You Know?
Harrisburg was named in honor of Richard Harrison of New York, a former owner of the town’s land. Harrison was a prominent lawyer of Welsh origin. He served in the state assembly and later as recorder of New York City. Settlers made the first clearings about 1802 along the West road. That’s from Franklin Benjamin Hough’s 1860 A History of Lewis County, in the State of New York.
