The village of Fleischmanns in the town of Middletown was first called Griffin Corners, after the lawyer Matthew Griffin. In 1883 the yeast maker Charles Louis Fleischmann bought land near the railroad station. Summer families soon built fine homes there. When the village incorporated in 1913, it took the name Fleischmanns.
