The Cahoon Memorial Park marker tells how Joseph Cahoon brought his family from Vermont in 1810. They became the first permanent settlers in what would become Bay Village. Their first home was a log cabin. In 1818, the family replaced it with a house called Rose Hill. The park entrance at Lake Road and Cahoon Road ties that story to two names on this print.
In 1917, Joseph's granddaughter Ida Maria Cahoon left the family's 115-acre homestead to Bay Village's citizens. It became Cahoon Memorial Park. The family's wishes gave Rose Hill a new role as a museum and library. The old Cahoon barn, built in 1882, became the Community House on the park grounds.
