Mingo Creek Church and the Whiskey Rebellion
The Mingo Creek Church sits where Mingo Church Road meets Union Street. A state historical marker there calls this area the cradle of the Whiskey Rebellion. In the 1790s, a log Presbyterian meetinghouse stood near the spot where the church is now. The Mingo Creek Society formed in February 1794 and used it. The meetinghouse became a center of protest against the tax on whiskey. Society members took part in militia drills on these same grounds. Some of them are buried in the churchyard today.
In 1992, the church and churchyard were added to the National Register of Historic Places. The township has another listed spot, too. The Dusmal House stands east of Gastonville, off Gilmore Road. It was listed in 1975.
