The township's best-known story is about stone. A state marker on Vera Cruz Road, near Main Road, tells it. The marker calls the Indian Jasper Quarries the most famous of Pennsylvania's Indian quarries. It says you can see them in the woods, a few hundred yards southwest of the sign. Native people dug jasper here and made things from it. Those things were carried as far as New England. That's a long way from a wooded hill near Vera Cruz. On the map, look for the Vera Cruz label and the red roofs around it.
The Log-Post Shop on Powder Valley Road
Another piece of the past stands on Powder Valley Road. The Schubert-Graber Log-Post Shop, at 6561 Powder Valley Road, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. Look for the Powder Valley label near the bottom of the map.
