Brownstown in the 1907 county history

Brownstown has been part of the Johnstown story for a long time. The History of Cambria County, printed in 1907, kept count of the villages around the city. It says Brownstown had 550 people in 1890. A later table in the book lists Brownstown among Johnstown's suburbs. It gives 800 people in one count and 904 in the next.

The same book names Brownstown in one more place. The town had its own commissary. When the number of commissaries was cut back, Brownstown's was joined to the ones at Cambria and Prospect. Today about 696 people live in the borough, by the 2020 census. Their streets still fill the middle of this map, with Stackhouse Park right beside them.
