If you grew up in Hermann, this print gives you a way to keep home close. It's a modern aerial view of Hermann in Gasconade County, Missouri, made with modern data and a vintage feel. A broad blue river borders the town's street grid. Red buildings stand out against green hills, with small roads reaching into the folds of the land.
Hermann's streets and German beginnings
On this map you'll find Market Street, East First Street, Hermann City Park, Schiller Street, Goethe Street, Washington Street, Gutenberg Street, Mozart Street, Wharf Street, West First Street, Stone Hill Highway, and more. Each red shape is a building, so zoom in on the preview and look for yours.
Hermann's story starts on November 2, 1837, when a group planning a new town settled on a name. The post office followed in 1840. The State Historical Society of Missouri's place-name account credits the German Settlement Association of Philadelphia with settling and laying it out. The group also chose the name Hermann for the town it planned to build. That makes the large HERMANN title below this map part of the story, too. It's the name those settlers chose for their new home. Market Street and East First Street are both printed on the map, so look for them in the preview.
The Rotunda, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, stands in Hermann City Park on Washington Street, and both are printed on the map.
