How the Paulville church came to Brashear
Brashear's Methodist church started before the town did. The Methodist Episcopal Church South was organized at a settlement called Paulville in 1848. Brashear was organized in 1871. When the new town was laid out, the old Paulville church building was moved over to it. People kept using it until 1884. That year they built a new frame church. The story is in an 1888 Goodspeed county history. The same book put Brashear twelve miles east of Kirksville, on the Chicago & Santa Fe Railroad. Today North Church Street and South Church Street run down the west side of the grid, one block from King Street.
