Did You Know?
Lieutenant Dall of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey named the bay in 1880, and a salmon cannery ran here from the 1930s into the early 1950s. In 1965 several families moved here from Perryville to find better water and hunting grounds and a peaceful life with religious freedom. The Kalmakoffs and the Calugans are the two main families. That's from the State of Alaska community database.
