Walnut Grove has a story worth telling. Walnut Grove began as a steamer stop that John W. Sharp set up in 1851 on the Sacramento River beside Georgiana Slough. In 1915 a fire leveled 80 buildings in its Chinatown, and the town split three ways: Japanese residents built their own Japantown a block north, Chungshan merchants moved a mile north and built Locke, and the Sze Yup people rebuilt on the same site. In 1937 a second fire destroyed over 80 buildings again and left over 500 people homeless. The district rebuilt from 1937 to 1940 was the last Chinatown built in the Delta. That's from the National Register of Historic Places.

Walnut Grove is a community in Sacramento County. The Census Bureau counted 1,452 people here in 2020.
