Here is a piece of El Moro history. El Moro was a company town created by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, whose tracks reached it in April 1876, five miles from Trinidad. Mines near Trinidad were opened to feed the coke ovens built at El Moro, and by the early 1880s they were reported to be the largest coke works west of Pittsburgh. Trinidad merchants did not like the competition from the railroad's new town. That's from the Bureau of Land Management.

El Moro is a community in Las Animas County. The Census Bureau counted 216 people here in 2020.
