Did You Know?
Stapleton began as a country post office called Spread Oak, later shortened to Spread. In 1885 a new railroad was built through, and the name changed to Stapleton. It honored Colonel James Stapleton. At that time the place had only one store and a few homes. That’s from the 1927 History of Jefferson County.
