Liberty Hall on Port Road
Machiasport was separated from Machias and incorporated in 1826. The seaport lies at the head of Machias Bay, with the Machias River draining the town.
Liberty Hall stands on Port Road, facing the Machias River. Its Italianate design includes a tower with a viewing platform, and its interior has meeting space downstairs and a performance auditorium above.
Town meeting authorized its construction in 1873, and contractor Andrew Gilson completed it the following year. It hosted civic meetings, Grange gatherings and traveling shows before structural conditions prompted its closure in 2000.
