Bolckow's name and its early railroad
An 1888 history of Andrew County tells how the town got its name. Bolckow was named in honor of an English gentleman who was connected in some way with the railroad. Trains began running in the spring of 1870. There was no platform at the station yet. So all the freight for Bolckow was dumped right on the ground. The same book tells of a man named Werts who stopped off at Bolckow and looked the place over. He made the town an offer. If the people would furnish the ground, a side track and a thousand dollars, he would build a mill.
