Clarksdale's church story goes back a long way. A county history printed in 1888 tells it. It says there was a Christian Church at the village of Clarksdale, in Washington Township. Elder Adams organized it in the fall of 1886. By the time the book came out, it had 45 members. The same book names a leading farmer and businessman of Clarksdale among the county's prominent citizens. The village that book describes is the one on this map, from Clay Street down to West Walnut Street.

Just south of Clarksdale City Hall, a ball diamond shows up in bright green. Past the last houses, open fields and small creeks run out to the edges of the sheet. Trees stand alone and in small groups across the fields.
