One house stands out in Florida's early story. According to a county history printed in 1884, the father of a man named Nesbit hewed the logs to build the first house ever put up in the town of Florida. The book doesn't give his name. That house was still standing when the book was written. He also helped build the first mill in the village.
The Jefferson Grange at Florida
The same book lists the Granges of Monroe County. One of them, the Jefferson Grange, was at Florida.
Just outside the village, the Merritt Violette House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was added in 1983.
