The Paris Male Academy on East Monroe Street
One old school building in town is on the National Register of Historic Places. It's the Paris Male Academy, at 411 East Monroe Street. It was added to the list in 1990. East Monroe Street is printed on the map, just east of Main Street. Look for it near the busy center of town, where the red shapes crowd close together.
Paris has a long story, too. In 1884 a history of Monroe County was printed. Its chapter on the Civil War lists the Battle at Monroe City and then the Capture of Paris. The same chapter tells of Monroe County men who left for California in 1849 and 1850. Today Paris is home to 1,161 people, as counted by the Census Bureau in 2020.
