Tipton is named for a person. The State Historical Society of Missouri says the town bears the name of William Tipton Seeley. He had the town surveyed in 1858. That came after the Missouri Pacific Railroad was built through here. A rail line is easy to spot on the map. It crosses town on a slant and passes close to Tipton City Hall.
Two National Register buildings on Howard Street
Howard Street has two buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. The Maclay Mansion stands at 209 West Howard Street. It was listed in 1979. Harrison School stands at 235 East Howard Street. It was listed in 2021. Find Howard Street on the preview, and you're looking at the blocks where both of them stand.
