Every town has a first chapter, and Sangrey is no exception. As people moved away from the Rocky Boy's agency and out onto the land, communities called districts formed, and each in time had its own school. The first was Sangrey School in the Sangrey district, built in 1928, a two-room schoolhouse where one teacher taught kindergarten through fifth grade. Roger St. Pierre, a student there in the 1940s, remembered the children planting, weeding and harvesting a garden at Dry Fork Farms whose produce fed the day school students. That's from the Stone Child College tribal history project.
Sangrey is a community in Hill County. The Census Bureau counted 316 people here in 2020.
