Every town has a first chapter, and Hiko is no exception. A camp stood at Hiko as early as 1865, and in the spring of 1866 W. H. Raymond and others laid out the townsite. The name is thought to come from a Shoshone word for white man, or white man's town. Raymond had a five-stamp mill shipped up the Colorado River to Callville, then hauled 140 miles by oxen to Hiko. Milling began in November 1866, and Hiko soon became the first county seat of Lincoln County. The county government moved to Pioche in February 1871. That's from the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office.
Hiko is a community in Lincoln County. The Census Bureau counted 124 people here in 2020.
