Did You Know?
Capt. Benjamin Rand, William Lang and Daniel Grindle first settled Goshen in 1769. Early frosts often ruined their crops, so they fetched grain from Walpole. Once Capt. Rand went for grain and a violent snowstorm held him there. His family went six days without food, and Mrs. Rand kept a five-year-old child alive by nursing him. That’s from John Hayward’s 1849 A Gazetteer of New Hampshire.
