Here is a piece of Mora history. Governor Albino Perez made the Mexican land grant at Mora in 1835 to 76 men and women. To take possession of the land, the grantees pulled up weeds, threw stones and scattered handfuls of dirt, and they gave thanks to God and their nation. The first families built their houses close together for protection from raids, and clearing the land was hard going. That's from the WPA guide to New Mexico.
Mora is a community in Mora County. The Census Bureau counted 547 people here in 2020.
