Did You Know?
Hume sits at the northern edge of the old Caneadea Reservation of the Seneca. It was one of eleven reservations set aside in the Big Tree Treaty of 1797. The land was then deep wilderness. In 1826 the Seneca sold it to land speculators and moved to the reservations that remain today. That’s from the 1940 WPA guide to New York.
