Did You Know?
The Cherokee Nation bought the 13-acre Greasy School campus to turn it into the tribe's second Cherokee language immersion school. Its language director said the school sat in the largest hotspot of Cherokee speakers in the world, where a child could go home to a Cherokee-speaking home. The school building there was new, put up after the original historic Greasy School was destroyed by fire in 2009. That's from the Cherokee Nation.
