Wightman School on Solway Street
Wightman School stands at 5604 Solway Street. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Many other Pittsburgh school buildings joined the list that same September. One of them was Taylor Allderdice High School at 2409 Shady Avenue. Wightman School shares its name with Wightman Street and Wightman Park, and both are printed on the map. Look for Solway Street and Wightman Park, and you're close to the school's block.
Two more National Register listings have addresses on the big avenues here. Rodef Shalom Temple at 4905 Fifth Avenue was listed in 1979. The Main Building of the U.S. Bureau of Mines at 4800 Forbes Avenue was listed in 1974, five years before the temple.
